Winter protection : how to prevent or minimize the damage from extreme cold spells.
Microclimates. The term microclimate localized climatic conditions in a small geographic area.
Peoples home yards can have microclimates with a spread of 3 degrees from coldest to warmest. The key to success is location, location, location.
Just a few factors are.
Elevation (remember low spots are cooler)
Proximity to buildings and water
Sunny side of a fence or building (especially getting the early morning sun)
Areas that are sheltered from wind
A stone or brick wall
The warmest areas in the winter are generally along the south and southeastern-facing wall, both due to the angle of the winter sun.
2. You should look for places in your yard that are sheltered from the winter wind, and using the factors above to find places that will maximize winter heat gain.
The warmest parts of a property usually will be along the south and southeastern wall.

3.Easy to make cover that can be heated (see photo’s below).
